Accountability To Be Introduced To Edu Dept
PUNJAB Minister for Education Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that with a view to ensure provision of quality education, a culture of appreciation and accountability will be introduced in education department on the basis of results of Metric, 5th and 8th class examination.
He said the EDOs (Education) showing best performance in achieving the targets of universal primary enrolment and completing rationalisation of staff by August 14, 2010 would also be rewarded.
He expressed these views while addressing the provincial EDOs (Education) conference at Directorate Staff Development, according to a handout here on Wednesday. Secretary School Education Muhammad Aslam Kamboh, DPI (SE) Mian Abdul Haq and DPI(EE) Ch Rasheed Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
The minister said the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was investing maximum financial resources in education sector so that literacy rate could be enhanced. He said the government had taken practical steps to raise the standard of education and had granted financial packages for teachers. Now it is moral duty of teachers to play a pivotal role in development of government schools and restore confidence of the people in public sector schools.
Addressing the EDOs (Education), Secretary School Education Muhammad Aslam Kamboh directed them to finalise the rationalisation of staff in accordance with the direction issued to them in this regard. Highlighting the objective of the rationalisation, the secretary said this step had been taken for shifting of surplus staff to schools deficient in staff and ensuring quality education without extra financial burden. He stated that rationalise process had be started for allocation of staff on the basis of workload and student-teacher ratio according to the actual need of a school. It will be done on the basis of sanctioned teaching posts as a vacancy can be filled any moment through transfer or recruitment.
The secretary said appreciation letters would be awarded to the teachers for best performance while accountability process would be initiated against the teachers who displayed poor results in 5th, 8th class examinations. Giving the details of criteria in this regard, Muhammad Aslam Kamboh stated that appreciation letters would be issued to those head teachers/teachers who would show 70 percent or above results of Punjab Examination Commission (PEC).
