GCU Ranked Best Varsity In Lahore
The Higher Education Commission has ranked the Government College University (GCU) Lahore as the best university in Lahore for producing 282 research papers in 2009, placing it on the 5th position in the ranking among all public and private sector universities of the country.
A GCU press statement issued here on Monday claimed that the University of Punjab was placed one step below the GCU with 269 publications, while the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore (UVAS) was ranked 12th with 101 research publications. The University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore was on 20th position with 52 publications.
The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) got 22nd position with barely 42 publications while the Lahore College for Women University, King Edward Medical University and the University of Health Sciences secured 30th, 36th and 42nd positions respectively. The HEC has ranked all public and private universities on the basis of research publications which appeared in peer-reviewed journals indexed by Thomas-Reuters, lSI Web of Knowledge during 2009.
Expressing contentment at this achievement, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Aftab said that the future of the country was in the hands of bright and productive scientists and research scholars. He recalled that the HEC had placed GCU at the 6th position among all private and public sector universities in 2009 with 154 research publications.
