SECRETARY School Education Department Punjab Muhammad Aslam Kamboh said the objective of rationalisation of staff was to ensure their allocation on workload basis and student-teacher ratio according to actual need of a school.

Chairing a high level departmental meeting held to review the pace of rationalisation, he said that surplus staff would be adjusted to the nearest school deficient in staff under this process and a vacancy could be filled through transfer or recruitment at once. He added no teacher would be declared surplus and their job security would be fully ensured. He further said the exercise of rationalisation was being conducted to address complaints regarding shortage of staff, ensure quality education without extra financial burden and to give a reasonable workload to every teacher to ensure feasible enrolment for each school. The meeting was told that EDOs (Education) with the coordination of DMOs and DEOs shall prepare a rationalisation plan. The committee would scrutinise the rationalisation plan on case to case basis and grant its approval.

The approved rationalisation plan would be notified by the concerned EDO (Education), he said adding the whole rationalisation exercise shall be completed before August 14, 2010.

Muhammad Aslam Kamboh further said Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had sanctioned the up-gradation of 1,834 schools adding under this scheme 400 middle schools would be up-graded to high school and 434 primary schools would be up-graded to middle schools. “The surplus staff may be posted in these schools for making them functional in public interest”, he added.
