CHIEF Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government has finalised the arrangements for provision of cheap and quality items of daily use to people during Ramazan.

He said that 20kg flour bag would be available to people at the concessionary rate of Rs425 in the open market whereas the same would be available at Rs 400 and 10kg flour bag at Rs200 in the Ramazan Bazaars.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting held regarding the Ramazan Package at Chief Minister’s Secretariat here on Saturday.

The CM said 1,100 price control magistrates would be deputed to ensure provision of quality items and implementation of fixed prices during Ramazan. He said the facility of Sehr and Iftar would be available to the poor and deserving at 500 Sasti Roti Dasterkhwans. He said instructions had been issued to all the commissioners and DCOs to control prices of items of daily use. He said flour bags of special colour would be prepared for sale at concessionary rates in Ramazan Bazaars. He said that the DCOs concerned would fix the prices with regard to concessionary rates keeping in view less prices of atta in southern Punjab.

Shahbaz directed the chief secretary to hold talks with sugar mill owners to check sugar prices during Ramazan. He said more fair price shops, Ramazan bazaars and Sasti Roti Dasterkhwans would be established during Ramazan as compared to the last year. He issued directions for providing fruit through green channel at free Dasterkhwans. He said Sasti Roti would be provided to the people at Sehr and Iftar at tandoors set up under Sasti Roti Scheme. He directed the chief secretary to evolve a system of monitoring provision of quality essential items. The CM said that Ramazan provided an opportunity to earn the blessings of God and the industrialists and traders should be ready for sacrifice to lessen the burden of price hike on the poor.

Earlier, Industries Secretary Shahid Khan informed the meeting that 400 Ramazan Bazaars, 200 fair price shops and 500 Sasti Roti Dastarkhwans would be set up in the province whereas Sasti Roti would be available at 9,800 tandoors. He said that 20 and 10 kg atta in special bags while sugar would be available in one kg bags.

Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretaries Industries, Food, Inspector General Police, DCO & Commissioner Lahore Division, Director Food, Cane Commissioner, Director General Sasti Roti Authority and senior officers concerned attended the meeting.
