Canal Closure To Hit Farmers
MILLIONS of acres of fertile land may become barren due to long closure of Chashma-Jehlum Link Canal, said the Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) here Monday.
In a press statement issued here, Sardar Zafar Hussain, KBP president, asked the president and prime minister to come forward and play active role in this important water-sharing issue. He demanded immediate convening of meeting of all stakeholders to ensure judicious distribution of water among the federating units.
He also underlined the need to remove apprehensions of provinces regarding, what he called, ‘partial role of Indus River System Authority (IRSA).’About demands of farmers of Balochistan, he said the government should accept appeal of the growers who had been facing high cost of electricity and continuous shutdowns.
