Chief Justice Takes Notice of Police Torture
LAHORE High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Wednesday took suo motu of an incident in which policemen of Tarkhani reportedly forced a man to stand barefoot on an asphalt road that burnt his feet.
The CJ summoned the regional police officer (RPO) of Faisalabad and superintendent of police concerned for July 1 (today) along with complete record.
Justice Khawaja Sharif took notice on a news item published in a newspaper which highlighted that two policemen of police station of Tarkhani on Saturday noon made a man stand barefoot on a road which burnt his feet after he (victim) demanded back Rs 10,000 which the police had snatched from him during frisking.
The CJ observed, “The application of inhuman and brutal methods of torture and extortion of money despite increase in perks and privileges of police force speaks volume of the claims of police high-ups who claim refining the force.”
