Court Summons PML-N MPA through ad
JUSTICE Mamoon-ur-Rashid of the Lahore High Court on Thursday summoned PML-N MPA Muhammad Safdar Gill through a newspaper advertisement as he was not appearing before the court in a petition against his eligibility.
A voter of PP-274, Bahawalpur, Imran Ali, filed the petition seeking disqualification of the MPA on the basis of possessing fake degree. The court repeatedly summoned the MPA but he did not turn up.
In this case, the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, had already filed its report refusing to acknowledge the BA degree possessed by MPA Safdar Gill.
According to the report, the degree possessed by the MPA under roll number 7590 was bogus and never issued by the university.
The roll number, used by the MPA, in fact was of one Salam Ahmad who also failed in BA annual examination of 1996, the report added.
Petitioner had alleged that during filing of nomination papers, Gill had tendered a bogus BA degree and he stood disqualified in terms of article 62 of the constitution.
He requested the court that the MPA should be called and asked under what authority of law he was entitled to hold office as a member of the Punjab assembly.
Imran also moved an application requesting the court to suspend the membership of Gill till decision on the main petition.
