LHC CJ Pays Surprise Visit To Courts
Lahore High Court chief justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the Model Town and Cantonment courts and heard problems of lawyers and litigants.
Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Registrar and Member Inspection Team (MIT), also accompanied the chief justice.
Justice Sharif inspected bakhshi khanas (makeshift detention centres for under-trail prisoners) at both the courts and issued orders to improve cleanliness and provision of clean drinking water on the courts premises. He said the prisoners were also human beings and reserved their natural rights. He lamented the fact that at least 50 per cent innocent peoples were imprisoned in jails, urging judicial officers to give immediate relief to innocent prisoners.
Speaking to bar members, he said lawyers had struggled for the rule of law and supremacy of constitution. He said Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was a role model for both judges and lawyers. He added that Allah Almighty had blessed lawyers and judges with great honour and they should maintain it. Justice Sharif urged judicial officers and lawyers to respect each other and not do anything reckless that might tarnish the image of the black coat. He asked the judges to give verdicts irrespective of personalities involved in cases.
The chief justice also issued directions for the provisions of books in libraries of the Model Town and Cantonment Courts and fool-proof security measures on the courts premises. †
Later, he also visited LHC Clerks Bar Association and announced Rs 100,000 for extension of the bar premises. Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry was also present.
