Police refuse to register kidnap case
NORTH Cantonment police have refused to register an FIR against people who kidnapped a newly-married girl and detained her for over a month.
Mishal Fatima, a student of BCom part-II, had embraced Islam before her marriage to Hamid Butt. She is now paying the price for this transition by being kept hostage and treated in the worst possible way by her family. Her misery has been perpetuated because of police refusal to register a case and free her.
Talking to the scribe, the complainant Hamid Butt, a resident of Sadar Bazaar Cantt said that he had approached SHO North Cantonment Rana Irum several times for the registration of a case of his wife’s abduction but he refused to do so.
Mishal Bibi, earlier a Christian, embraced Islam at Jamia Ashrafia some two months back. Hamid said that he was living a very happy life with his wife but his in-laws were not happy from his marriage and they were extending life threats from the very first day of his marriage. He said that his in-laws wanted to get Mishal back in their Christian religion at any cost.
On June 03, Mishal’s uncle Faisal along with his wife Seema came to his house to meet Mishal in morning and on that time he was also present there. He said after having a cup of tea with them he went to his office and when he came back home for lunch his wife was not present at home and the household luggage was scattered. He said Mishal’s uncle forcibly kidnapped her and took her jewellery and Rs 54,000 cash present in the house.
After this, he tried a number of times to contact Mishal’s uncle Faisal but he didn’t pick his phone and warned that if he tried to meet Mishal then he would be responsible for her death.
He said soon after this he along with his father went to North Cantonment police station for the registration of kidnap case of his wife but the SHO North Cantonment refused to register the case without telling any reason. He said he told the SHO that his wife life was in danger but despite that he did not pay heed to his plea.
After the refusal of SHO North Cantonment he went to DSP concerned Dr Mohsin but he also refused to assist him in this regard. He said later he went to SSP Operations where his PRO told him that he had asked the DSP North Cantonment to register the case but when he came back to DSP office his staff did not allow him to meet with DSP.
He said he had also moved written applications to CCPO Lahore, DIG Operations, Home Secretary, Provincial Law Minister but none to the authorities contacted him yet.
When contacted, SHO North Cantonment Rana Irum did not pick up his phone. A text message was also sent on his cell (0300-4106733) but despite that he did not respond. DSP Mohsin Bajwa was also not available on his phone 0302-4725919.
SP Cantt Jawad said that the complainant should contact him if the SHO and DSP had refused to accommodate him. “I would personally look into the matter,” he added.
