PPP Leader Expresses Lack Of Trust In LHC
A member of PPP central executive committee Ch. Manzoor Ahmad on Monday showed lack of trust in the Lahore High Court, saying he had no hope of justice from the institution.
Ch. Manzoor appeared before an election tribunal in connection with an election petition he had filed against PML-N MNA Waseem Akhter Sheikh, from NA-139, Kasur. The case is being heard by a tribunal comprising Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed.
A large number of PPP affiliated lawyers gathered in the court when Manzoor said to the judge that he had no hope of justice from the Lahore High Court as long as Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif was its chief justice.
However, he did not doubt the integrity of Justice Azmat Saeed, saying, “Sir, I have no objection to you but the Lahore High Court has become prejudiced due to its chief justice Khawaja Sharif.”
Manzoor requested the tribunal to adjourn the hearing of his petition until the chief justice was retired, or send it back to the Election Commission of Pakistan to fix it before the High Court of any other province.
Justice Azmat turned down this plea, saying he could not put off the hearing more than three days under the election laws. The judge asked him to file an application before the election commission on his own for transfer of his petition before some other High Court. Ch. Manzoor had lost his election against MNA Waseem Akhter and filed a petition for the latter’s disqualification, accusing the MNA of committing rigging on the day of polling.
