Relief Activities For Flood Victims Intensify
A MEETING of the PPP Lahore chapter was held on Monday in connection with the relief measures for the flood victims across the country.
According to a press release, the meeting, chaired by PPP leader Syed Asif Hashmi, was also attended by Lahore President Chaudhry Asgher, General Secretary Akber Khan, Zahid Zulfiqar Khan, Ejaz Chaudhry, Omer Sharif Bokhari and other office-bearers of the PPP from Lahore. The meeting decided to initiate relief activities for the flood victims following the instructions of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Asif Hashmi on the occasion donated Rs 100, 000 to the relief fund for the rehabilitation of flood victims. Mian Tariq and Akber Khan, PPP members, also donated Rs 100, 000 and 50, 000 respectively on the occasion.
The meeting also decided to dispatch a truck carrying relief items for the people of flood-hit areas immediately from Lahore.
Asif Hashmi, who is also the ticket holder of PPP from NA-118, Lahore, said the PPP government would leave no stone unturned in helping the flood victims. He said the steps taken by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani were praiseworthy and the party stalwarts would continue to work till the problem was solved.
Hashmi urged the party workers to make maximum participation in the relief activities. PEF staff donation: The employees of the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) have donated a sum of Rs 0.7 million in the flood relief fund of the Punjab chief minister set up to help and rehabilitate the flood affected people, said a DGPR handout issued on Monday.
ISF relief camps: The Insaf Students Federation (ISF) has set up relief camps for flood victims in different educational institutions and various places of the city, including Liberty Market, Wapda Town and Model Town.
In a press statement, ISF secretary general said about one million people were displaced and hundreds died due to flood in different parts of the country. He said the ISF would do relief work for the rehabilitation of the flood victims.
He said the government had failed to rescue the flood victims. He demanded President Asif Zardari to cancel his tour of the United Kingdom and spend that money on the rehabilitation of flood victims.
doctors, medicines for relief: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has unanimously decided that doctors will play an active role in setting up flood relief camps at Nowshera, Mianwali and Layyah and medical teams and drugs are being sent there immediately in this regard.
This was observed during an emergent meeting of Executive Committee of PMA Lahore held here at PMA House. The moot was chaired by PMA Lahore chapter President Prof Dr Yasmeen Rashid on Monday, said a press release. PMA Lahore has appealed to philanthropists for generous donations and also urged doctors to be a part of the teams being sent to flood relief camps.
