Seminar on Kashmir Issue Held in PU
Lahore: Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) on Tuesday arranged a seminar on “Present Status of Occupied Kashmir & Our Responsibilities”. Mr. Irshad Ahmad Arif, an eminent columnist was the guest speaker. Prof Dr Jameel Anwar Choudhry, Acting Vice-Chancellor was the chief guest on the occasion.
Mr Irshad in his lecture discussed that Kashmir is the biggest issue of South Asia which is a source of conflict between two major powers of the region. Today Kashmir movement has taken a new turn because Kashmiris have decided to get international support and for that purpose, they have accelerated their peaceful ways. He said Kargil step was a big mistake. According to him, it was either imposed or done intentionally. It is a great dilemma that whenever we reached near any conclusion like in 1992 and 1999, regarding solution of any national or international issue, either we increase our demand or do not take right decision at the right time. He was of the view that Pakistan had not been able to get proper benefit of its strategic position. He said Bhutto government had always a pro-Kashmiri approach. He focused that it is need of hour that we as a nation must fully realize our responsibilities. He said that bureaucracy, military and political parties should play their helpful role in solving the Kashmir dispute.
