Six refined products are notified for sale — they are not interchangeable.

Petrol (Motor Spirit / MS 92)

The fuel in nearly every car and motorcycle. Priced per litre at a single countrywide maximum ex-depot rate.

Moves freight and powers farms. Same nationwide ceiling pricing model as petrol.

Higher-octane grade for engines that need it. Often the only product whose pump price is quoted city by city by oil marketing companies.

Still important where piped gas never reached — heating and lighting in northern valleys and some rural areas.

Industrial fuel for boilers and slow-speed engines — not for ordinary road vehicles.

Cylinder fuel for kitchens; priced per kilogram, not per litre.
