Hello Darling 2010 Movie Review
Now what was that? A comedy which is about sexual harassment at workplace, stars three leggy beauties like Gul Panag, Celina Jaitly and Eesha Koppikhar, has backing by none less than Subhash Ghai and is promoted as a chic flick, HELLO DARLING was expected to bring in laughs at regular intervals in its 100 minutes duration. After all, the premise was such that there could have been dozens of funny incidents interspersed into the narrative that would have kept the fun element going.
So, while the initial part of the film is established in showcasing how Javed Jaffrey doesn’t take a moment to mutter ‘Hello Darling’ to anything in a skirt (he doesn’t even spare a hospital nurse), the latter moments try to establish how women in his office (Gul, Celina, Eesha) feel totally disgusted with his ways. Well ladies, how about the HR department? Any MNC worth its salt has a team that does look into such issues.
The scenes of seduction that follow are plain cold, while Javed’s kidnapping is totally unbelievable. Well, if he could make a phone call to his wife (Divya Dutta) for help while being trapped, it would have taken him just one more call to the police too, right? Even some screaming from inside the apartment would have fetched some attention, isn’t it?
In the midst of this all, one does feel pity for the three leading ladies who clearly seem to have been ‘subjected’ to such an affair. Celina Jaitly, who has done well in comedies before, looks hot but surprisingly gets the minimal screen presence amongst all the young women. Gul Panag appears to be totally uncomfortable in the setting and that shows. As for Eesha, she is the one who is completely enjoying the proceedings. As a bimbo, she plays her part well, gets some of the best lines and does impress with her comic timing once again.
Overall, HELLO DARLING just doesn’t work. Regardless of the fact that it wanted to bring a serious subject to the fore, an attempt at telling it all in a comic vein fails.
