CM Reviews Water Disposal Arrangements
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif paid a surprise visit to different areas of the provincial metropolis during the torrential rain on Tuesday, to review water disposal arrangements.
The areas he visited included the Davis Road, Empress Road, Railway Station, Do Moria Pul, Ik Morya Pul, Chowk Nakhuda, Misri Shah, Shad Bagh, Cooperative Store, Garhi Shahu and Main Boulevard Gulberg during his more than two-hour visit.
The chief minister met the people in various areas during the heavy rain without any protocol as even his security staff was unaware of the visit. He came out of his car and waded through rainwater to review water disposal arrangements.
Talking to the media after the visit, the CM said that it was the first time in the past 60 years that water drainage system had produced better results in the provincial capital. He said that quicker disposal of rainwater had been witnessed in the areas which used to remain submerged under water for days. He said that improvement was visible in the areas where practical work had been carried out and public representatives and WASA officials deserved credit for their efforts.
However, he said, despite laying of new sewerage system, the pace of disposal of rainwater was not satisfactory at MM Alam Road, adding that he had taken notice of the fact and action was being taken against the official responsible for the situation. He said that the administration and staff of the departments concerned were present at most of the places he had visited. He said that the residents of Northern Lahore had unanimously acknowledged the fact that water disposal arrangements had improved as compared to the previous year and their homes and shops were not submerged in the rain water, unlike the past.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid and Member Provincial Assembly Zaeem Qadri accompanied the chief minister during the visit.

foolproof security: Shahbaz Sharif has issued directions to improve security arrangements at worship places in the province, asking the police to take foolproof security measures, including the training for volunteers deputed at Imam Barghas, mosques and shrines.
He was presiding over a high level meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to review law and order in the province.
CM orders steps : Shahbaz Sharif has ordered steps to restore the natural beauty of Murree and provide modern facilities to the tourists. He was addressing a high level meeting held to review development projects for Murree at the Chief Minster’s Secretariat on Tuesday.
The Planning & Development chairman, the Tourism & Sports secretary and senior officers concerned were also present.
The chief minister said that a state-of-the-art research centre, including a modern digital library, would be set up in Murree, adding the project would be completed within next three to four months.
He said a sports complex with a squash courts and a large hall for indoor games was also being constructed there. Issuing instructions to finalize the plan for the sports complex, he ordered the officials concerned to start work on the project this year without further delay.
