Nawaz Stresses Implementation Of CoD To Strengthen Democracy
PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said that his party made alliance with PPP only to strengthen democracy in the country but the government failed to implement Charter of Democracy (CoD).
Talking to poets, columnists and scholars in Lahore, he said that non-implementation of CoD provided opportunity to enlarge corruption in the country. He said that attempts were being made to fall off democracy in the country. He said that 18th Amendment was passed only for the sake of democracy.
Nawaz said that India’s biggest progress wasn’t achieving the status of nuclear power instead it was being the biggest democracy in the world. He said that martial caused split in the country and it badly damaged democratic institutions. He condemned the statements backing implementation of martial law and urged that if the government failed to perform, the change should be made as per law. He said that a person (Musharraf) who killed Bugti and made judiciary hostage was presented Guard of Honour. He said that it wasn’t the time of point scoring, it was the time to make joint efforts to get Pakistan out of this mess.
Senior Analyst Nasim Zahra said that PML-N alone can’t go ahead and make government and it has to make alliance with MQM or PML-Q. At this time, there was no chance of alliance with MQM. She also denied any possibility of alliance between both Leagues. But in Pakistan, anything can happen, she added.
