One Dies, Seven Injured As Rain Brings Down Roofs
LAHORE: One person died while seven others, including women and children, were severely injured on Monday when the rooftops of their houses collapsed in various parts of the provincial capital due to heavy rainfall.
Early on Monday, two labourers – Shehbaz and Khadim – were busy in construction work on a plot adjacent to the back wall of the Fatima Jinnah Medical College (FJMC), when the college’s wall suddenly collapsed, burying both labourers under the rubble. Locals immediately retrieved the men from the debris and rushed them to the Ganga Ram Hospital, where doctors pronounced Khadim dead, while Shehbaz was said to be in critical condition.
In another incident, a dilapidated house situated in Papar Mandi near the Shah Alam Market collapsed. The residents of the house were outside when the house collapsed, however, a passerby, Amir, was injured. Locals rushed him to the Mayo Hospital, where doctors said he was out of danger.
In the incident, in Dubbanpura area, an under-construction second floor of a house belonging to one Abdul Jabbar, collapsed, burying his wife Amina, his children Ali, Sana and Kiran under the debris.
Locals immediately reached the scene and tried to retrieve the buried trio. They took out all the family members from the debris and immediately rushed them to the hospital, where Ali and Sana were said to be in critical condition while Amina was said to be out of danger.
