LAHORE: Green Town police have not registered a case against two robbers who were arrested with the help of residents of C/II Block, Township, about four days ago, The News has learnt.
Locals wanted to set the two robbers on fire but a local leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz stopped the furious mob from taking law in their hands.
Noman, a resident of C/II Block Township told this scribe that he, along with his mother, was on his way back to home late at night almost four days back when he noticed two motorcyclists chasing their car.
The motorcyclist had started chasing the car from Akbar Chowk, he said, adding that he parked his vehicle in front of a local bakery and went inside along his mother.
Noman said that he informed the bakery staff about the suspects who were no standing outside the bakery and staff, with the help of some locals, captured the two suspects. Noman said that almost five locals of the area identified the robbers instantly as they were robbed by the same two dacoits earlier.
People gathered on the spot, got infuriated and started beating the suspected robbers. Later, they decided to set the two on fire but were stopped by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and the suspects were handed over to police.
When contacted, Green Town SHO Raja Muzamil said that they had yet to register a case against the two. He said he would be in a position to give details of the criminals after bringing their arrest on record and completing the interrogation.
The local Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader, Kamran Cheema, said that the two robbers belonged to Yuhannabad and that they had snatched a bike from Liaqatabad on the same day.
He said the same robbers had snatched a mobile and cash from a local about five days before their arrest. They had also snatched cash from another local at gunpoint on Sep 7, he maintained.
