THE Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought report from the Secretary Education on unrecognised colleges and universities in Punjab.

Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry also allowed petitioner, Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey, to inform all private educational institutions through a press advertisement for becoming party in the case.

Barrister Jaffrey in his petition challenged the mushroom growth of fake educational institutions and sought courts’ directions for government to close all the fake and unrecognised colleges and universities.

Petitioner submitted that scores of bogus and ghost institutions had been functioning in Pakistan unchecked.

He said these educational institutions in fact were playing havoc with the careers of the youth.

He pointed out that the government had no mechanism to check private colleges and universities, as they were minting money from students by providing nothing in return.

Next hearing on the petition will be held on September 23.

Arrest warrants for SHO: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday, hearing a petition for recovery of an abducted lawyer Rai Shaukat, issued arrest warrants for SHO Ichhra Police Station and directed the CCPO Lahore to produce him in the court on July 30.

The court had earlier summoned the SHO but he did not turn up on Tuesday.

The petition was filed by Advocate Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, brother of the abducted lawyer, and High Court Bar Association submitting that the police were not taking action against the accused persons nominated in the FIR.

Petitioner alleged that the police had joined hands with the criminals involved in the kidnapping of the lawyer.

Advocate Shaukat was abducted on July 16, 2010 when he was on his way to high court near Lytton Road.

Man releaseD: Acting District and Sessions Judge Abdul Jabbar Khan on Tuesday released a person after getting him recovered from the illegal custody of the Civil Lines CIA.

Manzoor, a resident of Jhang, had filed a habeas corpus petition in the court, alleging that the CIA raided his house illegally and kidnapped his father.

He prayed before the court for the recovery of his father. The court deputed a bailiff who raided the CIA Police Station and found the man there. Bailiff produced him before the court and the court released him.
