LAHORE: The South Asia Partnership (SAP) has demanded that the government ensure the safety of relief items being transported to the flood-hit areas across the country. In a statement issued on Friday, the SAP coordinator said the partnership was involved in relief work and distributing essential items to marooned families across flood-hit regions. She said a truckload of potable water, edibles, medicines and clothes were heading towards Rajanpur when the truck was attacked and looted in Bassera, Muzaffargarh. She said the relief team accompanying the truck put up some resistance at first, but in vain. She said even the police officials concerned were not attending their phones. “Finally, we informed the district police officer, who gave us another contact number of the station house officer (SHO), but the SHO expressed complete helplessness over the issue saying that such incidents have happened in the past also in which some people were killed… the SHO told us that these people [bandits] are very dangerous and the authorities cannot initiate action against them,” the coordinator said. staff report
