South Korea MPAs Fight Over Budget

South Korean MPs came to blows as the ruling party tried to pass a budget for next year. Dozens of opposition MPs and their aides fought their counterparts from the ruling Grand National Party (GNP) after the latter physically preventing them from entering a committee meeting.
A GNP member was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being hit on the head by a gavel thrown during the scuffle.
Earlier, around 40 MPs from the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) took over the speaker’s chair and podium in the main assembly chamber to stop the GNP passing a budget for next year, local news agency reported.
The GNP has proposed an increase in government spending next year, while the opposition is calling for cuts.
